65-year-old man shot after confronting would-be car thieves

A 65-year-old man was shot Friday morning after confronting would-be car thieves in DeKalb County.

According to police, the man left his car running and went inside his home in the 4400 block of Stonington Trace in Ellenwood.

“When he went back outside,” DeKalb police spokeswoman Shiera Campbell said, “two male suspects were attempting to take his vehicle.”

That’s when the man confronted them and was shot once in the chest about 7 a.m.

He was taken to a local hospital in critical condition but is expected to survive, Campbell said.

The would-be thieves are on the run.

No other details have been released.
